THE CORNERS OF MY MIND

  • I've been thinking about my Steampunk costume again (btw: it's just for fun & my goal is to finish it in time for "Sherlock Holmes") and I've come up with what I want the clothes to be.
Now I have to work on accessories.

I want to make my skirt. I want it to be olive drab in color, long but have rivets in it so I can tie it up with leather thongs(strips). Something like the skirt below but longer:

I'm going to wear my own shirt. A kimono like top that is red & cream floral.

I'm want to wear a double-breasted vest over it. Like the ones Anne Shirley wears in "Anne of Avonlea". Similar to this one:

I'll wear my own boots for now. I have these:

    or some like these:

  • I've been thinking about how often I merely read the scriptures and take it in like facts from a text book. I should instead grab a hold of the truths, about God, contained in the bible and hold them/gaze at them & be in awe of Him. In thinking about this I was reminded how often I have read Psalm 136 and skipped through the "for his steadfast love endures forever" as if the Psalm said it too often. I read it again on Friday and drank in the truth of that phrase and understood why David repeated it so often (because we so often forget). i decided to "add" to this Psalm, because even though the recounting of God's kindness to Israel is valid I needed to recount the kindnesses He has shown me (and other "gentiles"). So here goes:

    read Psalm 136: 1-9

...to Him who did not spare His own son but made Him a ransom for many,
for His steadfast love endures forever,
to Him who humbled Himself and became flesh,
for His steadfast love endures forever,
to become the sin sacrifice for us all,
for His steadfast love endures forever,
and submitted Himself to a most gruesome death,
for His steadfast love endures forever,
and received upon Himself our the weight of our sins,
for His steadfast love endures forever,
received, from His father, His stored up wrath,
for His steadfast love endures forever,
saving us from our sins and rescuing us from the evil one,
for His steadfast love endures forever,
grafting us in to the family of Abraham,
for His steadfast love endures forever,
making us co heirs with Christ,
for His steadfast love endures forever,
    preparing a place for us,
for His steadfast love endures forever.
to Him who will return to take us home,
for His steadfast love endures forever,
to live with Him for ever,
for His steadfast love endures forever,
to Him who has not left us alone,
for His steadfast love endures forever,
    but sent us a helper,
    for His steadfast love endures forever;
to Him who began a good work in us,
for His steadfast love endures forever,
and will continue it until the day of completion,
for His steadfast love endures forever,...

    closing verse: Psalm 136: 26 -
"Give thanks to the God of heaven, for His steadfast love endures forever."

  • I've been thinking about a Steampunk costume and I think I know what I'm going to do but I'm still pondering it.
I'm trying to decide what kind of skirt to wear for my Steampunk costume. I'm thinking something like the two below:

I would want the skirt to be olive drab or brown in color.

or maybe something like these (also in olive drab or brown):

I think I'm going to make a tunic that is similar in style to a kimono:

and wear a corset over it (in similar color to skirt or bloomers):

I'll just be wearing boots I already have, for now:

    What do you think?

  • I'm really getting interested in this whole Steampunk thing. I haven't come up with what my outfit is going to look like. I don't know if I want to go pre-Victorian/Romantic era ish or if I want to take a lot of inspiration from men's clothes in the period or if I want to add in my Celtic heritage...I'm still working on it.

I came across this group of people and I really like this shot:

a lil bit about me

I LOVE JESUS!!! The Lord is so good! He brought me to His side. He draws my eyes to Him again and again when I wander. He forgives me when I sin. He gives me the strength to endure. And He loves me even though I don't deserve it.

I chose the name urbansouthuna because: one day my friends and I were talking about how country music seems to be all about living way down south & out in the country. I love country music! I’m glad I was born in the south! However I'm a very urban girl. I love living in the city; being close to malls, department stores, cinemas & supermarkets... BTW: southuna should be pronounced suth-na.

I am: slightly serious, very logical, a little quirky, not sappy at all but I have an inner romantic especially when it comes to certain songs & movies.

I like to get together with friends for meals, coffee, dancing and parties.

I am currently in to Indian culture (aka: bollywood films, clothing, jewelry & food).

I love to ballroom dance and I teach ballroom dancing classes every now and then.
